I don't understand how to check in Alta Vista for my buddy links pages. Please give example exactly. Thank you.

For me it is "url:searchengineworld.com/links". Substitute your domain of course. Then it is up to you to decide which are buddy links and which are not. I don't know of an easy way to do that.

I obtained the AV query results shown below. Why is AV showing 1 or zero for links? I was on page 6 of the new update (TETRA) # Query text - ---------------- 1 link:http:members.home.net/trial-animations/ 0 url:members.home.net/trial-animations/links Thank you, Scott Taylor

Interesting,Scott,I had to take a look: AV shows 250 links for Search Engine World, they will only display 19 pages for a total of 183 links. Now let's take a closer look at the "last modified on date" the newest is Feb 22/2000 and the oldest is almost 6 month old. Brett sent out the updated list on Feb 24/2000, give everyone 7 days(reasonable)to copy, paste and submit, allow another 7 days to get listed(if AV will accept the submition). By March 9/2000 we should see some results.

250 Links: We also have to remember that that SEW established many links before Brett started "Buddy Links".

Quite the contrary. Since I didn't move the site to this domain until Oct. All the three previous years worth of recip links I had still point at the old url and most of those have not been updated yet. I have not played the recip game with this domain at all - thats not what I'm about here. It doesn't matter to me whether it does 5, 500, 5000 or 50,000, page views a day, the site would be here. I don't have the promotion bug for this one. This is my 'get away from it all' fun site in support of community, clients, and "save my sanity" pet projects like Buddy Links.

HA! I finally got ranked #1 on Alta Vista. And the site is about web design no doubt. Looked at the competition and nothing seemes to have changed on their sites, so I have to believe it is because of the links program. Thanks, Bett... and keep on rockin!

Measuring results is the difficult thing about this program. It is also one of the reasons I want to move beyond reciprocal linkage and into the context sensitive links. If we get beyond just links and into more of a directory structure, I think it will help us long term, reduce the risk of exposure via being labled links program. It is also why I am getting strictier and pickier about the sites we have in the program. I've just updated the blocked domains and blocked topics list again: here.

As JavaShark says: "Thanks, Brett... and keep on rockin!" My buddy sites are bubling just below the magic point in AV, I have some medium competitive keyword sites, where it should be possible to detect the escalation
