I wanted a few help on the topsites .There are many sites that send you visitors depending upon the number of vistors I send them .
My questions are
1.) If I place them prominently on my links page ( to send more visitors )Then I risk allowing my visitors to leave my site early more so, if the categories and the content is similar . Over a period of time , I see that I send them more visitors than they send me .
so how do I judge the overall effectiveness of this.

Presently I do link swaps with only websites having a decent alexa rating. Is there more to top sites which meets the eye. Is it worthwhile to send visitors in the hope of getting more visitors someday?

Also presently I am confused about the exact focus of the link exchange campaign . What should be the focus- getting top google rank or getting more traffic through link exchanges no matter how relevant the content is .
I think we have over emphasised the PR concept .In my opinion I dont think an average visitor really cares about PR or Alexa .These are more of an academic interest.
How do I balance the link exchange campaign that could result in both .

I guess the very open nature of the internet is at cross roads today becoz of the googlysation of the internet .

Listen aerosmith, first Welcome to Webmaster World, next I suggest you reread that sentence.

If your visitors are visiting your link page then they are already on the way out.

Think of why you have a link page. It doesnít sound as if youíve considered all your options for that if your fear is having visitors leave. Visitors have to leave at some point, so if itís a link page taking them out then I might think about getting them to bookmark my directory. For some thatís enough to get them to visit again.

If the visitor is leaving early and going through my link directory to do that, that wouldnít bother me, what bothers me would be why is my visitor leaving early? Thereís a healthy discussion for another forum.

Over a period of time , I see that I send them more visitors than they send me .
so how do I judge the overall effectiveness of this.

Again, good question. Sounds like if the link is bringing you most of what you want except for more traffic, then you might have something to negotiate with. Donít hesitate to ask for more of what you want, especially if what you are offering is good. With related websites you are now talking targeted or pre qualifying traffic. Are you getting that in return? Iíll take less traffic if itís good traffic that converts. Are you doing that for your partner and is he doing that for you?

Also presently I am confused about the exact focus of the link exchange campaign . What should be the focus- getting top google rank or getting more traffic through link exchanges no matter how relevant the content is .

Back to the drawing board because it doesnít sound like you are ready. Until you think out what all the risks are and balance them against the benefits, you are dancing in the dark. These last questions are the first questions you want to ask yourself.

I canít imagine going into a campaign of any sort without first doing the homework and planning. Iíve really got to start pushing on my think before you link campaign.

I donít suppose this long-winded response exactly answered your question but hopefully itís helping you to take a step back and actually strategize a campaign out to follow. Itís not that questions like these wonít continue to come up as you work through a campaign, your focus changes though so what might have seemed a problem before actually can be evaluated as an opportunity.

Thanks Paynt
I think I get your point . Targetted trafic I guess which converts to actual clickthroughs should be the main focus .
