I have been using a hit counter for nearly a year now on my site. I have some good reciprical links all of PR 4 or over yewt I cant shift mty PR of 3. Could this be down to the fact that it is not even listed on google and as such is dragging me down, is there a good site counter worth changing to?

I cant say that a link to a counter would drag you down. What you could do is try without for a month or two to check if your PR raises, my guess is that it would not change. Many site counters have a PR of zero due to non-indexable pages.

I have read here that linking to other sites off of your home page may have a negative effect on PR but in my experience have not seen anything worth worrying about. Maybe a drop of 0.1 or 0.2 but nothing you would notice.
