Mailed to members this morning:
Site Audit Results:
I have just completed a full audit of all Buddy Links pages. I have placed the results of the audits here:
Any site listed with an error is in jeparody of not being included in the next refresh. This includes about 120 of our listed sites. Correcting just about any problem is completely in your control.
You can get a set of links off of this page:
Fresh Links Here
You can login to fix your listing at this page:
I'll do my best to answer email, but I am running 8-12 days behind and I am taking them in order of receipt. If it is an email address problem where you can't login and can't generate a password because an email address is wrong, please put "email address problem" in the subject line of your email.
Your best bet on a general information inquery is to use the Buddy Links message board in the forum. I check there a couple times a day.
And the Survey Says:
Quick Survey, please check the following two questions.
1) We are considering Mime encoding the links when we send out email
refreshes. We need some feedback before doing it:
Which of the following do you most agree with:
[ ] I would like the email links mime encoded very much.
[ ] Mime or no Mime, it is fine by me.
[ ] I wouldn't like it but I would do whatever it took.
[ ] I would hate it and probably drop out of the program.
[ ] What's a mime?
2) What email program do you use?
- UK domains are always welcome in the program.
- Foreign language descriptions are not ok.
- All current sites are just fine. we would never delete a
participating site. We agree we have modified the rules a bit in
midstream to correct oversights and problems, and we certainly
wouldn't remove any active participate.
- I will be getting to the newly added sites before the refresh.
- I will be responding to all the email from last week.
- Refresh will be some time this week or start of next week,
when I get the above cleaned up.
Current Sites: 391
Current Unvalidated Sites: 35
Current Bad Site List: 122 (ouch)
Unique Email addresses: 305 (representitive of how many people in program)
Average Buddy links related email weekly: 300-350 personal.
The biggest overriding concern I had before starting Buddy Links was that our pages must be 100% undetectable by search engines. We have taken every step we can think of to meet this primary goal:
1- Our pages are generated at random.
2- Page titles are provided by members (unique).
3- Page filenames are provided by members (random).
4- Page templates are of member creation (individual).
With those four factors, there is no known way any robotic program or spider could detect our pages as belonging to the Buddy Links program. If anyone tries to tell you they can, please inform them that all programs are not created equal.
This is the one aspect of Buddy Links that sets us apart from any other similar sounding program on the net. Many other programs are easily detectable - in fact, we use an algorythm to detect other programs when we spider.
Thanks again to those sites who have participated in full without fail. As you can see from the error list, we are carrying a great deal of dead weight this month and I sincerely promise to get that all cleaned up and either fixed or removed from the program before we commence with this next refresh.
