|Linking My Own Sites OK?|
I have 2 commerce sites (unrelated) and 2 weblogs.
The ecomm sites are not outbound linked to anything I own.
The two weblogs link reciprocally.
One weblog is specific to the industry of one of my ecomm sites and it one-way links to that site.
Am I cheating? Am I creating some negative link "web"?
I feel like I should be linking them differently. Is it ok to reciprocate links between your own e-comm sites on a links page. Mine have about a dozen recips on each site's links page.
Anyone have some opinions? Thanks
If the sites are on the same server/same ip the links will not count. You will not be penalised per se but the links from your existing sites wont count towards your link popularity.
The two weblogs are on the same server and the two ecomm sites are on another. It sounds like I can link the weblogs to both ecomm sites but not to each other - same with the ecomm sites not helping each other in an exchange.
Of interest, is that when I opened the second weblog on the same server, I put up reciprocal links with the older weblog PR4, and with no other inbounds, the new one came out with PR3 so it must have counted no?
Maybe it's not always true or perhaps GG's affinity for weblogs (or so I heard)?

Try doing a link:yourpr3site.com
What do you get?
Also, read this interesting thread
I never completely understood the taboo on sites interlinking.
Sure there are abuses, huge link farms and the like.
But, suppose I have 3 or 4 sites of my own, one about dogs, others about lemon trees, cars .. a restaurant ..
What if I park my car behind the restaurant, the dog jumps out and pees on the lemon tree?
I mean, are these sites going to penalized if they cross-link? Really? -Larry
i'm with larryhatch ...
imo there is nothing wrong with linking 4 of your own sites together
as is the case with most things in life, it is all about moderation. cross linking between sites done in moderation can prove valuable to your users, and will help with your linking starategy.
overdo it, and you are headed for trouble.
Mr. Charlie (and Topper) I think we are on the same wavelength here. Its all about moderation.
Just being sensible really. IF my [dog...] jumps out of my [car...] and
pees onto a [lemon_tree...] behind my favorite [restaurant,...]
I think thats pretty much OK.
Huge link farms abuse this, links far, far out of proportion to reality.
Much of this is automated, and therefore easy to spot.
I could go on and on. Ebay selling body parts etc.
One of my favorites is Florists and Hotels in Queen Maud land. (Antarctica)
Pity the poor penguins, balancing their baby eggs on their feet,
unable to buy flowers or rooms in the worst weather.
Oh how they might appreciate an Irish Coffee! But no.
The barman at Queen Maud's demands Antarctic Dollars and does not accept feathers.
Still, if the Antarctic 'florist' wants to link to an Antarctic hotel, I think that's fine.
PROVIDED, they both exist, right there, in Queen Maude land, and not in some piece of cake
like the Palmer Peninsula. -Larry
You are NEVER penalised but the links are devalued for the keyword. PR seems to flow interupted however. You could try being clever and have a general server on the other side of the world and pass the link through there. I don't think they measure more than one step back. Incidentally if the dog jumped out in front of a curbcrawling car outside a casino it probally would be devalued.
Hey thanks to you all. You're too funny!
