Some Usenet presence can do good also, depending on site subject. I had good results, especially in B2B related stuff. It is advisable to put some internal rep at this task.

Hi Andrew, No I'm afraid not mate, This site has a music theme so I'll have to look to that industry and promote from within. The problem is we've got zero dollars for promotion and I feel I'm already climbing a mountain and I've not even started yet.:)

Some music firms do what is called grassroots marketing - try to influence tastemakers, etc. This involves identifying these people, cultivating them, giving them free stuff, etc. Very time-consuming activity, and hard to pull off if the budget is zero.

Billy, you say "music theme" so I am not sure if this is a music company or not. However, assuming it is, and assuming the company has product samples to give away, you could run a small competition whereby entrants need to visit the site and answer questions by collecting information as the view pages. Or something like that. This would get traffic up and brand the company in the eyes of the visitors at the same time. You could also liaise with a local radio station or network to announce the competition, and so on. Just a few thoughts. Onya

Sometimes I wish I was still a teenager working away in my bedroom, trouble free!:) The problem we face at times is that most people still think that everything to do with the web is free. Thanks very much for your input here. I think this is a lost cause, and it's too late really for me to become involved in the announcement of the launch. I'll move on to the link building campaign and make recommendations.
