Automatic links exchange

I am talking about those fully automatic links exchanges where you donīt need to invite any one.
My questions:
- Are these links really important for Google PR?
- Can you recommend some good automatic link exchanges?

By the way, I have some experience with a few ones alreay. In a matter of 5 or 6 days my links in MSN jumped from around 200 to more then 900. I am now first in a four words keyword , in front of 106.748 results!.
As for google he is very lazy. Only around 100 links so far.

But my question still remains for the long term.

Any contributions are more than welcome.

Thanks, people

Automatic link exchange programs are pointless, the web sites you do exchange links with are often not relevant or only somewhat relevant and the web sites part of the link exchange program often use spam techniques. A sudden increase in backlinks isn't going to look to natural and could get you banned. I wouldn't recommend joining any automatic link exchange program, instead I think you should search for link partners manually, it may be more work, but in the end will bring you more.

By the way, MSN is easy to spam, so no surprise they haven't caught onto it YET.
