Last I checked, it doesn't help.

its against the ebay tos to do this!
if you run enough auctions you'll get an automated email from them telling you to take the link out of your listings.
(you are allowed to link to 'more information' this is a grey area though)

You can certainly link from your About Me page to get one-way links. :)

Link in the e-mails you send out, invoices and such. Also be sure to put your business card with website URL in the merchandise you are sending away. Has worked pretty good for me.

Don't forget that linking is not just about building incoming links for spiders to find. People find them, too, and people are a lot more liable to spend money than spiders are.
If you can post a link where people will find it (eBay About Me page, invoices, e-mails) but spiders won't, you're still accomplishing your purpose.
After all, why do you want the spiders to find your links? To boost your rankings in the search engines so more people will find your site. Don't get caught up in the means and lose sight of what you're using those means to accomplish.

I also put a link to my website on my Ebay page and its not even detected. Its been on there for months now and its not getting picked up.I really wish that page would get crawled, that way I would have a link from a MAJOR website pointing to me. But hey I guess it sounds too good for it to be true. ;)
