Is Firefox safe?

I really like Firefox for my browser now because mainly I like thet tabbing for new windows...but is it a safe browser? I used to use IE, but now I just like this so much better. It also does a great job of preventing the pop-ups. I am sure there are many out there that are partial to certain other browsers, so I am not wanting to start a debate. If there are problems with the security, are there certain fixes?
TIA

Welcome to WebmasterWorld. As may be seen in other threads Firefox is not completely safe, but for a number of different reasons its security level may be regarded as being significantly higher than that of Internet Explorer.

Well, NO browser will ever be entirely safe.
I was so pleased with a successful FF download and intallation
that I celebrated with a few beers. I slipped on the way to the fridge,
and could have hurt myself badly. All turned out well regardless. -Larry
