Opera Browser Usage and Support Forum

a small victory for opera
(and me:))

 9:21 pm on Mar 31, 2004 (gmt 0)

yesterday i was locked out of a large uk companies online store because i used opera. when i asked the webmaster why they block opera, they said for security and usability and suggested i 'upgrade' to i.e 5 - i guess they thought i was joe surfer and wouldnt question this.(see [webmasterworld.com...]

i didnt find this response particuarily convincing so after a short discussion here (http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum21/7587.htm), i asked them to elaborate, and they refused. so i basically told them i didnt believe they had a good argument (well, called them liars :)) and told them to get the developers to do the job properly - pointing them to a number of sites that have no trouble with opera. i also pointed them in the direction of this thread on the same subject:

anyways today i visit the site and boom! straight in. yay!

moral for opera users: if they lock you out, just ask why and dont let them fob you off.

if anyone would care to check that im not going mad/looking at a cacheed version from when i set the ua to ie, please sticky

Nice one, :)

I guess it's time the large sites started to realise that the days of designer for ... browser are gone.

hey I've been writing notes like that forever and don't think I've ever had a victory!

Good job. I just love it when they tell me to upgrade to Netscape 4 (from Firefox .8).
