We are in the process of deciding a CMS for our new technology content website (like anandtech, ars technica, sharky extreme etc) and we want a CMS that has a product centric approach like IGN. IGN has "objects" which can be games, movies, whatever. Each object has a list of different kinds of content available, like reviews, previews, media (images and video), whatever.
On our site, the objects will be products - hardware, gadgets, software, whatever. For example an iPod will be a product object in the CMS and it will have a list of reviews, images, how tos, guides, features, news and wahtever else.
We looked at a few basic options like drupal, mambo, joomla, and even wordpress that's powering some of our blogs right now, but nothing really fits the bill even if we decide to modify any of these for the product-centric concept. There's too much work involved, and we would be changing the fundamentals, so we'd rather go with a CMS that already does this, or build one ourselves.
Presently, we've started building our own CMS, but we do feel like we're reinventing the wheel, so can someone please suggest some CMSs that do this particular product-centric thing? I'm also checking out some sites mentioned elsewhere in these forums, but a more direct reply would be appreciated :)
