Page Hits / Clicks Discrepancy

 4:52 pm on Apr 6, 2006 (gmt 0)

Now that the reporting data for 4/3 is up to date, I'm seeing something that I haven't previously experienced with MSN.

Prior to this date, there had been nearly a 1-to-1 correspondence between reported clicks and landing page hits in my web logs. ie. it looked like I was only being charged for germane clicks.

Well, something different happened on 4/3.

One of my campaigns shows a 25% increase in clicks over last Monday. My web logs only saw 80% of those people (I know, this isn't *too* far off). Another campaign had clicks DOUBLE on Monday. A full 50% of those "surfers" never hit my landing page. A 50% discrepancy has me concerned. I've never seen that with overture, google, or even msn prior to Monday.

Anyone else seeing discrepancies?

Being charged for 1000 clicks...and only seeing 500 people hit your site...it's concerning. Based on prior weeks' data...I should've seen ~950 of those people in my logs.

I do monitor my web sites performance through custom apps. I had no down-time on Monday.

Hopefully it was just a one day fluke. Hopefully.

Also, I am in competitive industries - industries where click fraud would probably be more likely.

I'm seeing the same thing. Basically double the clicks on the 3rd in the reporting but didn't see them hit our site. Seems to be spread equally accross campaigns and orders. It's as though every click and impression was counted twice or more this Monday. It would be very reassuring to here something from Adcenter on this. Like it was a one time thing that won't happen again and refunds will be issued.

bttmfeed, thanks for the reply.

After reading your post, I decided to double-check my calcuations - I screwed something up the first time through. This is what happens when one stops drinking coffee cold-turkey, apparently. :)

Anyways...after double-checking....BOTH campaigns have the clicks and impressions doubled on Monday....not just the one campaign. So it appears I was double-charged for both campaigns on 4/3. CTR is totally normal.

Anyone else seeing doubled impression and doubled clicks on 4/3?

adCenter411...do you, perhaps, know anything of this?

it's me again. i have an update for you. the dev team is still working on the daily report data issue, however there's a workaround for you in the meantime. to see your actual numbers for 4/03, run your reports for 4/03 by HOUR instead of as a daily report. let me know if that helps.

i'm sorry about this inconvenience, and i'll keep you posted as i get updates on this issue.

let me know if i can help with anything else.

Thanks adCenter411.

Appreciate the quick reply. The hourly numbers DO make sense.

I just returned home from a week's vacation to find that my msn charges on Monday 4/3 were double the normal amount and many didn't hit the landing page. What's up?

By hour reports seem to be more accurate on my campaigns.

Thanks for the quick resolution, adCenter411. It is greatly appreciated! :)
