If I put in "cat food" as broad match, does this mean my advert will show for all of these:

1) cat food
2) food cat
3) cat food cheap
4) cheap cat food
5) cat cheap food

Any ideas?

Although not all of my keywords serve (relevancy?) I find broad to be all too broad. I do many different search queries for my kw's and I would have to say yes.
