In my limited testing of YPN (Yahoo Publisher Network) I have noticed that the ads default to commercial ads of very generic variety (i.e. ISP offers, loans, online degrees) when the page has not yet been spidered.

This is, IMO, a good thing (as long as other options to deal with defaults are made available).

thanks for sharing the info. how did you end up in the position of testing this? how many testers are there?

As far as I know there is only internal testing. I am commenting from the outside after limited observation of a Yahoo insider's test case.

Thats not very surprising as they are a very new service being developed. They probably have not built up a large database of potential advertisers as of yet.
