Please check my .htaccess bad bot list ...

Please check my .htaccess bad bot list, or point me to a good one.

I found one, maybe on this forum, can't remember where. It had Scooter in it, which I understand is the Altavista bot. The original poster also (inadvertently?) added 'Mozilla' as a bad bot. I've removed those.

I'm worried that there might be other legitimate bots in this list, or the syntax is too exclusive, or incorrect; either someone having a joke, or just being careless.

Thank you.

There are multiple threads in the archives for making your own determinations:

Your able to remove 15 lines from your file by modifying this line
[quoteRewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^[Ww]eb[Bb]andit [OR][/quote]
to read:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^[Ww]eb [OR]

That reads ALL that begin with Web or web.

READERS, DON'T USE THIS LIST!

Having read the threads suggested, I find this .htaccess file will ban any USER_AGENT with the word 'bot' or 'spider' in it e.g. GoogleBot!

Many webmasters, including some posters in this forum, don't know anything about MOD_REWRITE or regular expressions, but post suggestions anyway.

Understand exactly what your file is supposed to do, then test it.

Best effort any webmaster amy make is in "building" their own htaccess as time progresses, rather than copying a list another has provided.
In doing so you make your own determinations about what is either beneficail or detrimental.

BTW, with the following line,

Many webmasters, including some posters in this forum, don't know anything about MOD_REWRITE or regular expressions, but post suggestions anyway.

You flaw amny participants here, perhaps that was not your intention?
Your relativley new here, while others have seen these type of threads explode in to massive lists and repetition of something that already exists, a.e, lack of response to your inquiry. (that was why I suggested the two links versus going through what you posted, line by line.)

This forum since resuming isn't what it once was :(
Perhaps folks don't care for the moderation, perhaps they just haven't become aware of it's restarting, in any event the people here are less as are the threads.

I posted after finding out that my htaccess file had blocked various good bots and spiders from my site, causing me hours of worry i.e. why wasn't Google indexing my updated pages.

I just didn't want other people making the same mistake I did.

This is a very good forum.
