Yahoo is offering an online service that lets users view live U.S. local traffic conditions on custom-created maps, making it the first site to do so nationally, the company said late Wednesday.
In a milestone for Internet-based traffic services, Yahoo has beefed up its existing mapping services to allow customers to plot a route from one local destination to another, and overlay traffic data such as road speeds and potential delays.
This is a pretty neat feature, now you can find a local merchant, figure out how to get there, and figure out the best route depending on traffic.
Additionally, MyYahoo is getting more useful and relevant every month. You can check up on movies, weather, news, blogs and all kinds of cool stuff. I literally scan from the top of the page and work my way down reading all kinds of useful stuff interesting to me.
Live Traffic Reports may help them solidify a relationship with their user base that Google can't currently match. It may not be enough to present useful information. Yahoo has a way of integrating their information into the flow of a users daily life, which makes Yahoo itself useful.
