I think the best think to do in this situation is back up your documents and carry out a system restore. You can do this esily with Windows XP. start > programs > accesories > system tools > system restore From there you will be able to do a system restore to a previous date. Choose a date that is close, but at a time when you knew your system was working ok. Your system will do a restore then re-boot. This should solve your problem. If this does not solve your problem you can undo the system restore. Let us know how you get on. Mack.

Was mack's advice the key to fixing things or did you have success with something else? Personally I thought his advice was the best first step to take in a situation like this. The next thing I probably would have suggested would be a repair install of Windows XP...
