I pay £29 a month for a half megabit, same as yours, which just now is around $55 (yearly contract, I believe the price is down now). I've noticed that alot of the UK broadband providers are also putting caps on usage. AFAIK when I signed up I didn't have one. Maybe that's the price of cheap broadband for some people, a cap on the usage.

I don't love these threads. Rural Italy, can't get ADSL, paying around 400 US$ per month for what should be a 2 meg HDSL line. Eight fixed IP's. No cap, but, hey, why would there be when I have to pay for every meg of traffic, up and down? Still, it works.

India: I am using 512 kbps DSL with 2 GB monthly limit for an equivalent of $45/month. Extra data transfer charges are approx $20 per GB.

Paying $70 a month for Road Runner Business class at home, but only because I wanted a static IP. The normal price is around $45 I think. I also have DirecWay (Satellite) for the R.V., which is only $60 a month, but the hardware was $600 and then the satellite locator hardware to make it work on a mobile installation was another $1100. I believe Direcway only works in the northern hemisphere but I could be wrong about that - check them out and see if it will work for you.

Wow! You should all count yourself really lucky. Just for interest's sake I emailed our TelCo to get a price on a 1984kbps line, their answer: $31275 per month on a 12 month contract. Now thats a spicy meat ball!

In UK 512kbps from £18 (I'll let you guys convert it) and 1 Megabit from about £35 for home users usually with capped usage per month. The fastest I've seen for home users is about 4Mbps and 1GBps for business though you are going in to £100's to £1000's of pounds.

You have to add the extra "double receiver" or whatever they call it, and the extra for the TV feed.... I just 3 days ago got a quote from them. $149.95/month - and the install here is $799.95 paid up front. You CAN get it "long-lease" (I'm NOT going to do that....) if you want to pay over time.... which may be the pricing they quote on their site. (Our TV feed ALONE is more than they're apparently showing on the site, and they refused to allow a discount. We have to buy major networks too, because we live in the only place in the lower 48 where we CANNOT GET LOCAL TV. You're welcome to come and verify that....) I pay over time for my house and my Ford diesel. That's it.

Nope, unless we were neighbors. Many places in rural Oregon without local TV. We're paying around US$50 per month for 250kb dsl. A bit steep, but we are rural, and it is a treat to have dsl via our phone co-op that only charges $12 a month for phone service. By years end we will have fiberoptic to the front door. Hope to see rates drop then. WBF

Lucky you, willybfriendly! When I enquired as to how soon Qwest might be planning fib-op in this area etc. I was told that unless several hundred of "us" were willing to front a LOT OF MONEY, the bottom line was "NEVER". This was virtually the same response I got when I enquired of the major local ISP how soon we might hope for cable modem: "if 250 of you want to front $2500 each, we might be able to run cable out there in the next 5 years". *sigh* Never happen.... Life in the outback of far southwestern Utah has its attractions. Connection is NOT one of them.... Believe it or not, I live ONLY 40 MILES from a small city of 60k +.
