Any advice on upgrading ...

Any advice on upgrading my machine?
I currently run all my stuff on a P4 with 2.53 GHz, 512MB RAM and a 120 GB Disk.
From last vacation i brought home a few hours on video, which when copied onto the HD it is 21 GB per file (80 minutes video).
Now I wonder what is the best to upgrade the machine so it can better manage these large files when editing these files or when converting them into DVDs.
Any advice what to invest in is highly appreciated.

SATA hard disks, preferably with 16 MB of cache... 300 GB are fairly affordable. General advice would be a bit more RAM.... maybe at least 1 GB. Faster processor, motherboard, RAM (RAM speed), and clean defragmented hard disks are all good things to have. You may want to also consider a realtime editing card like the Matrox RT.X10 or RT.X100. They usually come with packaged software for editing and encoding/DVD writing. There are a lot of good video editing forums around... you may want to check them out.
