Microsoft Windows Whistler Professional Anyone heard of this? SEOMike msg:1566516 4:55 pm on Nov 19, 2004 (gmt 0) This is displayed on one of my company machines when it boots instead of just windows. I did some checking and this was a codename for Windows XP like Longhorn is for... (well whatever they name it).
Why is the XP codename displayed on a computer that was purchased WELL after XP was released? It's an HP machine, so it's not like it came from a shady source either. Came right from HP.
Any ideas? The employee swears he installed nothing.

Whistler was displayed if you installed a beta build - some of the last betas could be upgraded to the release version, why a PC shipped directly from HP would have been configured that way is a mystery. Hester msg:1566518 10:00 am on Nov 22, 2004 (gmt 0)
YOu can still see Whistler mentioned in the final version of XP. I forget where, but it's somewhere they forgot to update.
