| Refreshing issues

For some reasons I just do not want to use frames, but here comes the problem: when clicking a navigation link on a frameless site - the whole site refreshes.
So, I'd like to know if it's possible for some parts of the site NOT to be refreshed, to be more concrete - I don't want some Flash details to keep playing. If there is a way indeed - please be so kind to share it with me ('have no doubt there are more people thinking of such things) Thanks,
