Dear Friends,

I have a content site with a active forum. My site's domain is bit long and the forum is located at www.my-domain.com/forum.

I have acquired another short domain for the forum and am considering moving my forum to the new domain. The benefit is the easiness of typing URL, but I don't know there will be any drawbacks. Specifically:

will splitting my forum out affect my content site's ranking?

will this move affect the ranking of my forum itself because it gets a good ranking, after it uses a new domain, will its ranking go to zero?

I would like to hear your advice.

Thanks.

Use 301 redirects to automatically forward visitors from your old domain to the correct url on your new domain. That should help.
