Ratio of posters to lurkers
what would be the norm?

 8:23 am on Nov 17, 2004 (gmt 0)

I wonder if there is any way of finding out what is the average ratio of posters to lurkers on a board. My board is around 65 : 35 the lower side being the posters.

How does your board do?

Naturally all boards are different but again I wonder what factors separate a board with say 90% posters and a low "lurk factor", to one where only 20% of members actually post.

Hmm.... never crossed my mind. There seems to be a pretty heavy lurker community on my board, not sure how large though. New members are constantly saying "I've been visiting for a while, just not posting..."

I think the ratio of lurkers to posters depends quite a bit on the overall purpose of the forum as well. In my forums, the purpose is to provide a place to share stories -- so having one post and five hundred read (or lurk) is perfectly all right for me!

On that note, I think my ratio is about 200:1.
