I've had this crazy idea...
What if, to make a discussion forum more interactive, you also had a range of quizzes/tests on the subjects covered by your forum.
Then, forum members can answer these tests, and if they score well enough, are rewarded with special rankings in the forum.
I know phpBB can provide standard and "special" rankings, I'm just wondering, having searched high and low myself, if anyone is aware of such a script?
That is, one that will allow you, the owner/moderator, to create multiple-choice quizzes and with a high enough score resulting will somehow "flat" that member whenever they post as an expert on that subject?!
The only way I've found so far is to create the quizzes using one script, then based on the results, the mods would have to manually adjust everyone's rankings - something that would waste huge amounts of time each day with a busy forum.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, durrell. I've never seen anything that would do this "out of the box". However, I think you could probably find someone to code a simple hack that would let an authenticated member take a quiz and then, based on the results, modify his profile data in an appropriate manner.
I'd suggest finding a php quiz script or two that seem to meet your needs, and then solicit input or paid help in one of the hack forums for your forum software. This doesn't sound like a really difficult task (easy for me to say, I won't be coding it!).

Welcome durrell. Great first post. I think that's a great idea that could work on a variety of forums. There are some logistical problems that would needed to be sorted out, but it could definitely work. First, creating any type of ranking system is open to abuse, so try and guard against it. Do you allow users to take the quiz more than once? If so, it may be easy to eventually get a perfect score every time, without even knowing the language the quiz is written in. If you don't allow them to take the quiz more than once, they won't be able to improve, and that could have negative results.
This is definitely a custom job that I haven't seen before. Good luck to you.

has anyone gotten anywhere with the quiz mod?
I'm searching the web for one because I have to have it ready by December 1st, 2004.
