YAY! Just in time for my big foray.
9:25 pm on May 12, 2004 (gmt 0)
This is very cool.
rogerd, ready for the discussions?
10:04 pm on May 12, 2004 (gmt 0)
Can someone work out how many years of expertise can be called on in this forum?
It must total hundreds if not thousands.
10:35 pm on May 12, 2004 (gmt 0)
Cool, i am just in the process of starting my first community website. lots of questions ahead :)
11:27 pm on May 12, 2004 (gmt 0)
Great idea, thanks Brett and rogerd. Having run and/or helped build about a dozen Forum sites in the past, I'll be looking forward to the discussion.
11:49 pm on May 12, 2004 (gmt 0)
Hey, thank YOU, Brett... building web communities is a great topic, and what better place to have this discussion than here! WebmasterWorld is certainly one of the most successful web communities by any measure, and we can look around us for a great learning experience.
Martinibuster, we're ready... bring 'em on. I certainly don't have all the answers, but between the community here and the ultimate community architect, Brett, I'm sure we'll get some great topics going!
12:04 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Hey, nifty! Congrats on the new forum and the new responsibilities, Rogerd!
12:07 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
This is great! Building communities is such a daunting task and one that takes great finesse. Hey rogerd, congratulations and thanks for taking the helm. This should be fun!
12:26 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
This is going to be one interesting forum, one I am sure will be useful. Thank you all for creating it. There are few places that would even attempt it.
12:33 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Roger, I was just singing your praise in the content & copyright forum.
I, too, plan to launch my first forum later this year and I'm just pregnant with ideas and sooooo ready to give birth to the conceived forum, ahem. ;-)
12:35 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
I guess I will learn a lot here.
1:25 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Good idea! I'll bet a lot of WebmasterWorld moderators will hang out in here :)
1:27 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Lol, Webwork, that's a visual I could have skipped! ;)
6:17 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Thanks for reading my suggestion Brett! The only problem is, I'm going to have to spend even more time at WW now!
6:30 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Brett, my question:
How can I get my hands on the scripting for the Webmaster World BBoard. Are the url's mod rewritten, or do you have an on-the-fly page building - or what ...
How does this board work, and is it available anywhere for sale (or open source)?
I have been searching forever for a BBoard with hard url's that spider easily.
6:55 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Congrats on the new forum!
I can think of two definite topics...
1. Building forums, installation and design advice
2. Getting members. ('Great, you created a forum, now what?')
[from one who has had some very cool, but user-less, forums]

Just want to add my 'me too' - I'll be visiting here *every* day, thanks for starting this category!
8:16 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
somerset that question has been asked many times. Head over to the WebmasterWorld Community Center [webmasterworld.com] and have a dig around and you will find all the answers you need :)
8:43 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Great, looking forward to it!
10:40 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Good new forum.
Are we looking to talk about the technicalities of forums here, such as asking for support on setting up a phpbb forum for example, or just the building communities side?
11:28 am on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Neat ....corse you've probably woken up every troll on the planet too ....But it should be interesting ...
rogerd....good luck ..and hang on tight!
1:41 pm on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
Eggy, I expect that we'll get into the technology, too, not just the "soft side" of community building. But for really detailed troubleshooting of an individual installation, the software package's own support forum (or their tech support) will probably be better and faster.
4:54 pm on May 13, 2004 (gmt 0)
another place for me to hang out :)
3:09 am on May 14, 2004 (gmt 0)
With apologies to Mike Meyers:
"Yeah baby, YEAH!"
3:27 am on May 14, 2004 (gmt 0)
hey, what a great idea. Thanks Roger & congrats!
11:21 am on May 14, 2004 (gmt 0)
Very good timing!
I am having scruples as to whether I should add BBS to a site that I think will do well. This'll be more impetus to get the job done.
Rogerd - get ready, I think this'll be a busy place.

Very happy about this Forum. Now, if only ya had the smiley's to properly express it. ;)

Excellent. Glad to have the forum and glad to see it in the capable hands of the always well-dressed, well-spoken, and thoughtful hands of rogerd.
Now, about that link from your PR7 page...
