Googlebot just started a full crawl. Usually this happens at the time of or right after the update. Anyone seeing any changes?

Google started crawing my sites too, on the 23rd. She's starting with 9 different crawlers; usually it's a max of 5 by the end of the crawl, and she used to start with a modest 2 or 3 crawlers.

Moreover, the timing is unexpected. The last big crawl on my sites was from Apr 4 to the morning of Apr 14. I usually get about three weeks relief after a crawl -- three weeks of 0 visits from Google. This time I got only 10 days.

Theory: Google may have added more crawlers to their system, and/or staggered their crawling schedule and processing schedule, or re-ordered some of their old patters.

Googlebot finished crawling my site on April 14th.
I'm new at this. Should I expect another crawl
now or was the one that stopped on the 14th the
last I will see of it?

I had one new site crawled for the first time today.
My other new site hasn't seen Googlebot since the 14th.
I'm on pins and needles.

Google used 6 crawlers and Inktomi started crawling on the 24th, with 6 crawlers also.

Though i also have not noticed any changes with google or inktomi partners yet!

"Yahoogle has updated..Is a google update far behind..."

I cannot find any evidence that Yahoogle has updated, I don't believe Google will reindex until the middle of next month, as the last reindex took almost two months. I'm hoping they will return to once a month as it was about 4 months ago.

I agree with chadlerh about wanting Google to crawl and update more uniformly, but I'm hoping when the dust settles from this latest crawling spree that the crawl/update time period is significantly reduced from its usual two months.

I submitted a page (non-root) a week ago and it was crawled yesterday. Only crawled one page and will have to wait until a few days have passed to make a judgement.

Is anyone watching the different versions of the Google index (www2 and www3, I believe) to see how they evolve during this process? It would be interesting to track the changes.

Google listed some of my new pages today.
Does anyone know when I can start looking for them in Yahoo?

Googlebot has been going to town on our sites too. Really a full crawl. Which is great of us because we've added a few hundred pages of quality content to a couple of sites.

I still don't see a reindex I know they rotate between a new database and an old database and if you were looking at 1 am you have a better chance of seeing the new database because there are less people surfing at that time. The best way I have found to tell if google has reindexed is to search "cnn" then look at the cache. You will see the date is feb 28, that has not changed for a month. If anyone can get a more current date on there cache please post that means you are in the new index.

I have several new pages on as of yesterday and some old pages are in new positions. They must update different subjects at different times.

lizzie you may be in the new database as google has two locations. Eventually the new and old become one. Click on the CNN link and tell me what you see and make sure you can still see your new pages. thanks

I have a new site just shown up on google, I had a referral but the funny thing is I couldnt understand it for a while. Looking on google from here (UK) didnt show my site at all, but going through an USA proxy shows me in second place.
Does this mean google updates in different parts of the world at different times?

can you post the proxy you used to see the new database, What they do is they have two databases and they send most traffic to the old database and some to the new one, until the old one is updated. I don't know if they decide which database to send you to based on your location.

www.anonymizer.com shows the updated google for me.

I could see I have new pages on Google using anonymizer. Couldn't see them otherwise. This is exciting for me as they are my first pages on a private hosting service. They only took a month from the time I submitted them.
Does anyone know how long before they will appear on Yahoo?

lizzie

msg:1613053

Using anonymizer just now I could view my pages, then started looking at some other pages and hit the back button to look at my pages again and they were GONE! I was still using anonymizer and they just suddenly disappeared in a few seconds! So even with anonymizer enabled they switch back and forth between indexes.

Mine is consistently there with it and not without it (make sense? :) ), I am possibly using a different proxy to you though as anonymizer have a few proxy servers.

I mentioned this to Chad by email but thought I should share it here too.

If you look at [anon.free.anonymizer.com...] you can see that the cached version of CNN is dated April 5.

I guess google is updating...

I would like to thank theperlyking for his insight, I was able to see the reindex a day early than most using [anon.free.anonymizer.com...]

I am now seeing it by just going to google.com.

looking good so far.

Must be some shuffling going on or something. I'm getting referrals and going to google to second check and don't find my site listed.....strange.

My log analysis gives links to the referring page, so there must be either some shuffling or perhaps a delay in propogation?

Scott, this is what I saw too, hence messing around with proxies. Going direct to google still doesnt show as updated for me.
