Geeze Brett, 5000 posts - what size shirt do you wear? I got a present for you if it is a large :)
11:41 am on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
He usually resets to 0 every 10.000 posts.

Chris_R, sorry to hear about your PR problem.
So far I've rechecked six of the affected URLS I was sent this month; I finding four are fixed (i.e. the rankings are back along with backlinks and sensible cache) but two of them I'm not sure about yet. But both were slightly dodgy (although not, as far as I can tell, on purpose).

Well glad to hear someone's is ok. A few were iffy, but at least two were not iffy at all.
I can't complain too much - as not all were OWNED by me, and the update in general treated me well. As far as I can tell - no new sites banned (I have more than 100 - so I haven't checked them all). And I managed to improve ~75% of the ones I wanted higher listings on.
I'll be able to know more later, but as of now - it still appears to me they will be banned. I did pull some links, but not too many where I don't think I could tell.

Really a nice update for us, all the penalties etc. were moved and the site flies hight in the skies. Thank you google and webmasterworld!

OK, I should report I behaviour that I havent seen reported here before that affects one of our most popular sites for our targeted 2 letter phrase - 1,000 pages plus, which gets the home page and a couple of others spidered every day or two regardless with around 6 to 7 Page rank. Attracts around 1,000 Google hits daily and is high on content.
1. Each update our site goes to around 4th or 5th at the bell for the ww3 update.
2. By the end of the major update when www3 results seem to go on to www, the site rate higher.. around 1 or 2 and stays there for a week or two.
3. During the month it slowly slides down to around 5 or 6 by the time another update starts
4.Then the same behaviour starts again.
What I'm seeing that I havent seen anybody else report, is this changing of rank BETWEEN updates.
Anybody else seen this..? Know what it means?
As you can see, I'm not sure why the fuss and fun during updating time, when I see changes every 2 to 3 days.

Bad update, bad update. :(

Thanks for saving my job!
I started working for a new site in October, promising extra incoming links and Google PR. Things were working well by November, but my boss never got round to looking till after the December update. Disaster! Worse than when I started.
Its all good now.

Nothing is moving much for my site. I just hope I lose the penalty. I can not see anything wrong with the site (maybe someone else can?).
Still watching www3

I can duplicate your more frequent updates on some competitive keywords of high traffic sites. Controlled by hand, generic searches, accepting and returning cookies after resets.
Did you control Google's cache?

I am seeing our site back in the DB and ranking well!!!! Damn this is nice.....I hope it holds up. I am not seeing our PR and links back yet, but I will wait a bit.
2:14 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Nope.... sites still missing for me. I have absolutely positively categorically no idea at all what problem Google has with these.
2:21 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
I'm stumped too
No change at all for me,
Another very poor (£££) month ahead, cant take it much more
3:06 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Ok I can't be sure yet but it looks like Google has picked me back up...PR is still showing 0, but I can see in my simple stats program that people are coming in from Google on relatively competitive keywords where I've been at the bottom for a month. When I click on the links I'm not there, but I guess that's because the stuff isn't stable yet. Hopefully this is a good sign.

My day has gone from bad to worse, firstly a client decided against a new project and then this update :(
3:08 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Congrats Andrew! pr, is still showing white here - hope that changes...
Any update on the directory yet?

I just checked and didn't see anything Brett
Thanks Brett.....I really hope that some of this holds up, we are seeing really good positions for alot of keywords considering we are just getting back into action.
3:14 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Google's picked up nicely on my site and now we've got a few top 10s. Excellent!!!!!
3:15 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
One of my sites are back to its regular PR (5-6)and the other new sites that were zeros are now clocking a PR of 4-5. Buckle up everyone.
3:16 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Yea....I'm gone on www3!
Still holding position on www & www2 (not great, but a significant move up), but on 3...zilch.
Should be a long weekend.

I saw updates on the directory earlier today. I had to remove the toolbar ... with a few reloads i saw changes. My site still PR0 at the moment
3:18 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
It was live on www.google.com for a moment and it was so upsetting to see my pagerank fall from a 6 to a 0 =(
I'm gone this month it seems... in.. shock.... help.... argk....
3:27 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
If this stays, this will be the best update ever!
3:39 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
I also see similar behaviour, with my sites in high tech fields. They are generally overtaken between updates by news pages, which seem to slip away after the update.
My guess is this
Update occurs including old news pages.
www3 filters out old news before going to www, thus causing increase in ranking.
News sites are spidered and updated during the month causing new entries in dB which cause a slow drop in position for the site.

My PR is BACK! Wow what a miracle. PR 6 right now, pretty cool if it's back for real.
4:29 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
my main term must be locked in. no real change from last update and w2 and w3 are showing the same for the top 2 slots.
4:34 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
congrats stace! lets hope it stays and will not follow the patern it was following recently:
1 month is great, 2nd month all gone...
4:43 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
No changes for me yet... But I discovered that there's life after Google. In fact I'm getting more hits than ever through Google. Lol.
4:45 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
GUYS DONT FORGET WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME*****
www2 and www3 were changing about all happily and then suddenly at the last moment a totally different index swooped in.
5:11 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Nice - Very Nice! Doubled number of incoming links.
5:16 pm on Jan 25, 2002 (gmt 0)
Gracias Andrey! :)
It's worth pointing out that although I don't think cleaning up my off colored (not quite invisible though...) text and some other slightly suspicious things did anything to help restore my PR w/ Google-- I've noticed that I'm doing a bit better in places like MSN and Alta Vista lately. So maybe long term some of us that have worked feverishly to "fix" our sites will benefit long term...
