Yeah I got one of those earlier today.
I can't tell you how excited I was to get an invitation off them - I must be one of the lucky first few users! ;)

LOL, i thought that too, i imagine virtually all the people who initially requested an account would have one already.
but they've gotta start the rollout somehow and i assume that this is it

I was shocked at how many names/nicknames are already taken... or not allowed.

Looks like there's not a filter on the invites.
They invited an email address that is listed as an alt address in my main GMail account.
Signed up for the new one just to see if it looked different, and the new one comes with 50 invites. Seems it's very live now.

I've got no less then three invites - two to the same email address.
(And I've had Gmail for months now, but thanks anyway :))

Not all accounts come with invites. According to the help file, the invites are "random", so it looks like you won the Invite Lottery. I don't have any...

I already have 4 accounts (I use them for competitor monitoring) I recived 4 of the new invites. Plus each of my exsiting accounts is allowing me to invite 50 people. So in theory i can sign up more than 200 new accounts. I reckon this is as wide as they will offer it.
If anyone still looking for a gmail account after the end of the month, I will be surprised.

This might be good for those caught up in the initial interest but who never got around to pursuing an account. :D

So did anyone download the live version? Does it look any different from the invited one I have? Please post a screen shot or a link to one... I'd rather not start a new Gmail account if I don't have to.... :)

They are exactly the same. The "live" version is still the beta, it's just that Google are opening it up to more people that have shown interest in having an account.

I got my invite last week as well. I had actually forgotten that I had pinged the big G about getting one many weeks ago. I only wish it had included a few invites I could pass on to friends. Time for another G-ping.

Gmail invites are not hard to come by. I've got 50 sitting for me to use right now. I got gmail by joining a yahoo group for people to get free gmail.

For those of you that did not receive an invite, try visiting google.com to do a search. I heard on the news that there was a 1 in 20 chance to receive an invite. I got one on the first try.

I think it never really changes from 50. I sent out three invites the other day -- it said I had 47 left. A few hours later I logged in and it said I had 50 invites left.
