How do Yahoo! and Google rate web sites?

I'm interested in two search engines: Yahoo! and Google.

Do they deliver search results based on:

- searched-for words in the domain name?
- meta tags?
- linking popularity?
- amount of searched-for keywords on particular page?

or anything else?

I'd appreciate any comments from the search engine masters.

Since Y presently shows primarily G results that may be all you need for the moment. Though based on this thread Yahoo purcases Inktomi [webmasterworld.com] that may change in the near future.
