Hi, I will be designing an informational site on my home town and was wondering what would be the best approach to designing this site.

I know there are endless posibilities but if any webmasters have experience in designing informational sites or directory sites I would appreciate any advice, i.e. (css, php, Mysql, etc) what technology should be used for a site of this nature.

I would create a very simple (custom) PHP/MySQL-driven website. It's very easy to do it (if you know how). The design should be professionally made, though.

I would make it as dynamic as possible from the start. It doesn't matter if it's only going to be ten pages, if you make it dynamic now, the site can grow and you save time. If you need more help, send me a sticky.

Staying with PHP / MySQL, you might want to investigate the numerous CMS (Content Management Systems) - many of them open source - that are available as an alernative to doing all the nuts and bolts programming yourself...

I would just plump for a static HTML site using templates from dreamweaver or frontpage

Thanks for your reply! Can you tell me why a static html site would be a better approach than a dynmaiclly driven site? I mean, initially, there will not be a lot of content really just listings of business and the such with a description of the business and location but there will also be activities which are going on in town which will need to be updated often. replies greatly appreciated!
