Firefox inconvenience

I know firefox and inconvenience don't really go together. Still encountered a little problem though.

If i open a word file in firefox it doesn't ask me to safe the file and then open, no it just opens puting the file in temporary folder. It happened to me once that i saved the file often and closed firefox and word to find out the file was in the temporary files folder. It would be nice if i wouldn't be able to safe a file in the temporary file folder or if there would be some way to force firefox to give me a download option if it concerns a .doc file.

Is there any extension which can help me to achieve this?

In Firefox click the Tools menu and then Options. Next click Downloads at the top and then click the button View & Edit Actions.

From there you can change what happens when you click a link to a file type.

This is of course for Firefox 1.5. Not sure how 1.0.X works (I adhore Gecko 1.7 IoI).
