Site crawled by unfriendly looking spider
What is this?

 4:38 pm on Jul 25, 2000 (gmt 0)

I just spotted one of my sites being hit by this spider/person at AV.

Interesting, eh?

Can I guess someone has complained and this is the investigation?
It'll be interesting to see what happens, because, there are no "special techniques" used, no duplicate pages, no cloaking, just good, honest SEO.

Anyone else see this before?

That's just Mercator, nothing to worry about. The unusual looking name is where you can complain about their spider if you found it intrusive. This one has been getting a few posts by worried webmasters :)

That domain name sure points out how paranoid of the SE's people are getting. I found the whole discussion on this one intriguing.

Thanks Air/Brett,
First time i've seen this on any of my sites. It does look rather weird.
At first, I thought, what's this - I know the site it hit does pretty well on a number of kw and phrases - too well? Have I crossed the "too spammy" line? Then, before i posted this, i thought, there's nothing to fear from a comlaint, other than a competitor getting miffed.

At least everyone else reading this now knows too.

People prefer to send me email to posting here. I've gotten numerous emails about this one. So I'm bringing the post back to the top page for those I send here ;)
