Search results on AltaVista to be powered by Yahoo! Search Technology!

I was checking out the good old AltaVista Search today just to check my rankings. I then came across this message:

"Search results on AltaVista will soon be powered by Yahoo! Search Technology. For fast submission to the Yahoo! Search Technology index via the Overture Site Match(tm) program" from [addurl.altavista.com...]

After chatting with one of Yahoo's PR people they revealed that they hope to roll over "in the next several weeks". I am guessing this summer.

Looks like Altavista is a dead duck. Murdered by Yahoo.

Altavista is still spidering heavily, which seems odd.

Altavista and Alltheweb (alltheweb confirmed and working today as everybody can see) are now under yahoo thumb...

To be frank I'm worried about that, I liked both and SE and directories is being monopolized by major players. In fact if they decide to make everybody pay for getting listed that will be a problem because theres no reliable alternatives.

In the other hand if your site is not listed by yahoo or google you are out of the world. (mine's ar ok with both but anyway)

I don't know what you think but I feel some blue by Alltheweb and Altavista...
