I've recently added a couple of pages to PFI Inktomi in the last week or so that are ranking unnaturally poorly in my opinion. (Iím basing this assumption on my results with the 10 other sites Iíve listed with Ink PFI over the last few months.) These new sites are ranking so poorly that I'm wondering if something has changed with Inktomiís algorithm or if there are still some lingering issues with the recent geo-targeting updates.

For example, I put together a simple, one-page site for my sister-in-law about widgets. It's just a placeholder page with some basic text and a form for email collection. I know it's in the pure search index, but it doesn't even show up in the top 200 for "widgets". I just don't see how that's possible.

Some other page shows up at #31 . I looked at the page's source and the word ďwidgetsĒ only shows up 4 times on the page. The rest isnít even in English. Iím not picking on that page, but I have a fairly difficult time understanding how that page should rank above mine for the word "widgets".

Iím having a similar occurrence with another site I submitted late last week also, so I donít think itís isolated to one particular url.

I realize that the site can definitely be improved upon, but Iím really surprised that it wonít even crack the top 200. I had problems on some other sites with the geo-targeting that they did, but that seems to have been cleared up. Is anyone else noticing anything unusual at Ink lately?

Thanks,
Graydon Trusler

I submitted one page in INK last week.
The page show up at the 283th position for my keypharse.

Not very good, I guess you have to do some Ink SEO.

just a placeholder page with some basic text and a form for email collection.

PFI won't give you a ranking bonus. You still need to cultivate inbound links. Additionally, you need to have content. A placeholder page won't get you anywhere.

It's not an Ink problem, the problem is very likely with the quality of your page. Ink has human editors that look for a variety of pages that are considered "unsuitable" for their index.

I agree with martibuster. You are going to need incoming links and more content.
