I've recently added a couple of pages to PFI Inktomi in the last week or so that are ranking unnaturally poorly in my opinion. (I’m basing this assumption on my results with the 10 other sites I’ve listed with Ink PFI over the last few months.) These new sites are ranking so poorly that I'm wondering if something has changed with Inktomi’s algorithm or if there are still some lingering issues with the recent geo-targeting updates. For example, I put together a simple, one-page site for my sister-in-law about widgets. It's just a placeholder page with some basic text and a form for email collection. I know it's in the pure search index, but it doesn't even show up in the top 200 for "widgets". I just don't see how that's possible.
Some other page shows up at #31 . I looked at the page's source and the word “widgets” only shows up 4 times on the page. The rest isn’t even in English. I’m not picking on that page, but I have a fairly difficult time understanding how that page should rank above mine for the word "widgets".
I’m having a similar occurrence with another site I submitted late last week also, so I don’t think it’s isolated to one particular url.
I realize that the site can definitely be improved upon, but I’m really surprised that it won’t even crack the top 200. I had problems on some other sites with the geo-targeting that they did, but that seems to have been cleared up. Is anyone else noticing anything unusual at Ink lately?
Thanks,
Graydon Trusler
