Yes - there's been a major change in algorhythm as far as I can see and the results are now looking a lot more like Google's. It's a good thing I don't rely on Alta Vista traffic really.

>I don't rely on Alta Vista traffic really Yep its shame poor old AV doesn't seem to be getting much use, I've got one of my main keywords at no1 and I hardly get a hit from it, but the same word on the 3rd page on another (not saying the name) gets 10 times the traffic, says it all

The Altavista SERPs are truly a thing of beauty. I am #1 on the three single keyword searches I target. ;) Sadly, traffic from AV is truly minimal. Obviously they don't get much use.

Major changes indeed. I was treated very nicely, though I do not expect a great increase in traffic. now is certainly a good time for AV, Teoma et al to make a move though WBF

Yeah, Scooter have gone mad and just went through my 3 month old site like a hurricane, picking-up everything on its path.

I can confirm the upgrade. For my experience Altavista is one of the quickest to index new site; it is not difficult to optimize for Altavista but i noted that you nedd two - three months to rank fine. > Sadly, traffic from AV is truly minimal. For me Altavista is about 2 - 3 % and considering that it is still free I think that it is "precious" in these days; a lot better compared to Alltheweb / Lycos.

Well, I just checked a site or two (haven't bothered looking at more) and I must say that this does look quite similar (though not identical) to Google's results on the searches I checked.

Hi Rumbus I think the comment was more to say Altavista is looking like Google....;) Pretty sure Altavista and Google are not part of the same crew :)

I can confirm a new major indexing. Until now (site up and running from January onwards and adding new content every week) we had only 3 pages in the index that were in the DMOZ directory. Today I checked and see 338 pages in the AV index. Now I'm wondering how many visitors this will bring to our website...

>Altavista is looking like Google Oh, I thought this thread was about an AV update - a proper update too - not the refreshed pages. I must have missed the Google reference somewhere? ;) >Pretty sure Altavista and Google are not part of the same crew Right, but AV and Fast are..

Yeah its the update? I dropped many places like from #3 to #18 for my main keywords... I got frustrated and wanted to post something in WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com] ...but hey! Ohh my Goshh! There is no AV News forum like Google News [webmasterworld.com] - I got scared, just in time a idea stuck, and I studied my logs. Found that my WebmasterWorld profile [webmasterworld.com] is giveing me more traffic and Altavista :) Not to worry much :)
