I submitted my page for a keyword Thailand about a week ago at altavista. It should be indexed by now. Why it has not appeared even in the top 200. Here is my site [gorgai.com...] Any thing that I might do it incorrectly. I compared number of keywords Thailand with those listed in the top 10 and I thought I have more Thailand that they have.
Welcome to the WMW boohaha! Has it ever occured to you that you are mentioning Thailand too many times? You better read up on key word density. Remember that going for a single word like Thailand is not an easy task, as it is one of the "hot" destinations in the travel industry. Many pros that are targeting that single word.
You probably do better if you try to define your target with two or three word combinations, that better explain what your site is offering.
As Henki has mentioned Thailand is a very competitive destination and their are numerous quality websites with hundreds of pages of information in them. Your best bet would be to target 2 to 3 word phrases so you can capture your target audience.
Perhaps running the higher ranked sites through the various tools available to you at searchengineworld.com would give you a better idea of your competitors "off the page" features (number of links, link reputation etc.) By studying this information and comparing this to what you currently have, you will grasp a great idea of what you need to do to crack the top 50 for "Thailand". Also bear in mind that it can take search engines much longer than a week to index your site. I've noticed that in AV it takes time to move up in the rankings even after being indexed.
Thank For Both of you. As Henki mentioned, I need to be focused on two or more words or phrases. Any idea what might be a good one for my website. Thanks. I create my website mostly as an exercise for myself to see how far can a person with tight budget can go in the real internet world with something I know about Thailand. Kinda hard when those big pockets are doing the same thing. Don't you think?
