***They're Baaaaaack***
INK's large DB back on line
gil

I was surprised and elated this morning when my checks for SE position showed that all of my 5-28 and 5-30 submissions were back on line.

Kindof puzzled that submissions made on 7-11 and 7-28 of the exact same pages (with only a date identifier) did not make it in. If INK spiders a page that is the same as a previous submission due they just let the earlier submission stay in and ignore the new one?

Good luck all,
Gil

Hmmm... I can't find any indication that our former listings are back in. May I ask what indexes you saw these in? Hopefully I'm looking in the wrong place!

Thanks

They're Gone Again.

Should have known it was too good to be true. All of my secondary pages were dumped again this mornoing (Sun 8-6).

This Damn INK DB thing is almost enough to drive a man to drink.

Gil

dB back to normal [if there is such a thing] and pages returned 0700 GMT.

Added Plus slurp very active across a broad spread of domains and NetBSD finally showing itself on new submissions.

Back to as it was on Saturday - no new submissions in however - and still out on iWon, Looksmart and Goto - but Slurp IS active!

Strange... as a few of you guys informed that the database was back up, none of my stuff was back up. 10 minutes later I checked again and *POOF*. There it is!

72 pages back this morning (7AM EDT US). They were submitted 8/4 and mid July. Key doorway and content pages still not back. J6000 spidered 48 of these around 11 AM. This group was submitted 8/5 around 9AM EDT.

Anyone know how long between J6000 showing up, and reappearance of the pages in the index? And what's with Ink anyway? My pages are stable in all other major se's. I generally never resubmit unless pages are dropped. With Ink, I'm like a yoyo.

Seems like everyone in these posts having similar experience. Anyone know of sites that are stable in Ink? Guess those folks are sleeping well, not participating in forums like this one.

Cheers!

P.S. I love the structure of this discussion board. Anyone know what software it is?

appraiser,

WE have pages in both databases, when the new one goes off line or pages drop, We just consider it part of the job.

J6000 has been a bit faster since the middle of July - no way of really knowing...

The software for these boards can be found here:
[thewebmasterforums.com...]

Brett, has done a great deal of customizing to the boards
Keep in mind he, uses the Perl Handbook as a pillow at night. Although I can't see that the actually sleeps...

We're seeing very minimal spidering from J6000, compared to the number of URL's submitted over the last 14 days.. Either their backlog is huge, or they are just going to dump their que of submissions awaiting crawls... We had approx. 190 on 8/6, and another 200 on 8/7. Compared to over 6,000 submissions.

Pages submitted 8/5 and spidered 8/7 showed up overnight last night. Some of those pages which were also submitted in early July showed the earlier submission date (Anzwers).

Does Ink do this on and off thing systematically, or is it just symptom of problems with their db? Does anybody really know? Is it just the Wizard of Oz thing, some nut behind a curtain?

Has anyone seen any evidence of inktomi "banning" or "blocking" a set of IP addresses or a server (not sure how they would differentiate there but ya never know)or a type of site, ie: adult?

I am having no luck getting j6000 to even spider my sites yet get them into the index. I've never spammed them or had any trouble whatsoever, so I am not really sure what's going on, even though I've had the help and advice from the experts (you know who you are :) ) I just can't seem to get anything in!

appraiser - I don't think anyone knows but the folks at INK what goes on there. I personally click my ruby slippers together three time and say: "There's no place like INKTOMI" over and over. Then wait a few days and all is well.

Jilly's question: I have never heard of INK not spidering a site on submission (in recent days). As I recall, Jilly has some pages in INKTOMI (right?) but can't get an INK spider to visit the others with or without resubmitting. Anybode else experiencing this problem, Adult or G

Yes, on a very G site of about 35 pages. Client wanted to eliminate a keyword that was producing badly targetted traffic and improve on others.

It's been two months now, lots of submissions, and no spider.

Been submiiting one domain for almost three months, PG+ rated. No spiders ever, the domain has an x in the name, wondered if it could be that.

Do you have incoming links? Once my site got listed in ODP and Go directory, and picked up a few links from other sites, including a few of my own, I started seeing Slurp more often. ODP was the key... I think.

First let me clarify that these range from G to Adult rated sites. I do have all of these sites listed in other engines besides inktomi, including Yahoo, AV and believe it or not, some of them have pages listed in Ink! But they won't spider any of them and haven't for over a month!!
Some of the sites are brand new, never been submitted to anything and got listed everywhere else but ink. The others are long standing sites and they were always in inktomi until the database problems started <again>.

I'm going to call them today to see if I can figure out what is going on. I'm not holding my breath, I doubt they'll tell me anything. It's just too strange. And as for them not spidering adult sites, I don't think that's it. I know many people who have submitted and been added to the index just in the past few weeks and they definitely have adult sites.

I'll let you know if I get any info out of these guys.

<edit>
Man you'd think inktomi was the cia by what I got when I called them! I know the guy was trying to be nice but he basically said he could get fired for telling me anything!! That they are not allowed to interact with their customers!

I did weasle out of him that it is possible that they will block domains for spamming, but not by ip address. Since I have NEVER spammed anyone that can't be the reason.

He said that some of their "partners" would be easier to get listed in and get those domains active in inktomi again, whatever that means. I just asked him if Canada.com or anzwers or whatever would be better - he could have just said yes or no - he nearly hung up on me. I can't blame him. The poor guy was whispering as he talked to me!! He tried, I know, but this is GREAT customer support, don't ya think???

So now I don't really know much more than I did before except I doubt my ip's / server/ domains are banned since most of them have pages listed in ink already. <groan> back to the drawing board...

Jilly,

Let's break it down - one post at a time (anyone want to help, feel free to get in on it)

You do have some pages on some sites that are indexed in INK, right? No new pages on those sites have been spidered?

Yup, that's right. I have had no new spidering of sites that already have pages listed in ink.

Jilly,

I don't think external links or the lack of them stop a spider from coming in. With that said - does the site(s) have any other sites linking to it/them? (even if those additional sites belong to you)

Yes the sites have external links to them from other sites. Some owned by us and some owned by others, not to mention other search engine links.

Jill / Steve
You really could be blocked just by having PG. terms in the URL, they have blocked sites without ever spidering the pages.
