Smart TV Transmitting Unauthorised Viewing Data

 4:26 pm on Nov 20, 2013 (gmt 0)

It's worth reading the whole piece as, if proven to be true, is a complete lapse in personal privacy.

I guess we have to accept that anything connected is at risk of talking back, but worse still, if a user opts out, it still transmits the data.

LG is investigating allegations that some of its TVs send details about their owners' viewing habits back to the manufacturer even if the users have activated a privacy setting.Smart TV Transmitting Unauthorised Viewing Data [bbc.co.uk]
It follows a blog by a UK-based IT consultant who detailed how his Smart TV was sending data about which channels were being watched.
But when the BBC contacted LG, it indicated it was looking into the complaint.

"Customer privacy is a top priority at LG Electronics and as such, we take this issue very seriously," said a spokesman."We are looking into reports that certain viewing information on LG Smart TVs was shared without consent.

It is terrible.

Must have just been an accident...

I'm off to interrogate my coffee maker and toaster now...

Has anyone seen an update on this story?

Might my LG monitor be doing the same?

The last I heard was that a patch was going to be issued to fix the option. Option! lol.
