Quite possibly no one ( I know I didn't ) saw the thread until today..( glitch ? I know that not all foo threads show in "active" ).but I read about his death else where the day it was announced..

I was surprised that you hadn't posted about it that day ( nothing about it has shown in "active" 'til today )..figured you must be on vacation..

I once wrote an article (long ago) comparing Alvin's hammer on/pull off method of getting extra notes to Harry James' (40's Big Band jazz trumpeter) version of double and triple tonguing.

Compare I'm Going Home (AL) to Carnival of Venice (HJ). They sound very similar during the solo breaks.
