the thing i dont get, is that the option to block/accept cookies is already present in our browsers, and has been for years. if they are so worried about cookies they should have just told the 5 or 6 browser makers to make their cookie/privacy options more prominent, instead of foisting these changes on every single website -- most of which will probably just ignore the law anyway

Those who make the law don't understand what they are making the law for or how the internet works. Someone told them that cookies "are bad" and so they had to "do something".

What is even better is that it means that a lot of sites that did not previously require cookies (i.e. they worked fine if you blocked cookies), now require cookies in order to track your agreement to the cookies.

This is really annoying me today - some sites just say by using this site you agree to us using cookies, others have pop-ups on every page.
