I watched Madonna - the finger thing was what 0.1 of a second.
Something every year recently ... oh who has a new album out soon.
If you fined everyone who did that in a proper soccer game here - there would be no money to pay the players !

<clarify>dont like american football..went to a Monday night football game in Miami once.. very confusing attack/defence teams.. went on for hours. But at least I got beer, which you don't get here, and our American hosts had a great time.</clarify>

People that are making such a big fuss out of such a fleeting gesture have shallow little lives and it's also a slow news day.

we all know that the US still lives in the 40s and as long there is teaparties.... people over there it will not change, but once again New England did play that well at a superbowl.

I get as many chuckles watching soccer "football" and crowd rumbles and resulting deaths. A finger at an American sporting match half time event not part of the game which is taken out of context is really important. Guess it depends on the point of view.

As opposed to the 1240's? The concept of kings, queens and privilege by birth is pretty medieval. ;)

The finger person dishonored herself because the only thing flashed was her stupidity.

haha I must say over here we always get a grin how the Americans look at thing, even in the news, they starts with "now look what the Americans are offended of" I think you must to morocco or something to get the same view on such things. btw I dont even saw what Madonna did wrong and I saw the game.

its not really a matter of what Americans get offended by, its what silly stupid thing can the news blow up bigger then life for no reason.

Each year the news / media take it to a new low.

i gave plenty more than a finger when welker dropped that pass at the end, it was right in his hands. even i could have caught it. i'd sack him and banish him to the north pole

londrum -that was a good one.

J_RaD - I think the most Americans also think its ridiculous, but there is a few over there that has huge power, its sad.

I know some people that didn't even catch it..... well the TV will make damn sure they see it 50 times in a row on repeat as they blabber sounds out of a hole on their face.

Our news sucks. :-(

It was the middle finger. I'd rather she had a wardrobe malfunction.

It wasn't madonna that did it , some other "famous" singer dancing with her that I have never heard of !

@J_RaD is right, probably 10 normal viewers noticed it, the media must have played it back in slow-mo to check.

We get the same here - something happens and there are more complaints from people that didn't watch than did watch the programme. In fact years ago I remember a complaint from a Mary Whitehouse who said something was so shocking she wouldn't watch it anyway.

<aside>Actually the weird thing about my being at a televised Monday night game was the guys who had portable TV's so they could watch the replays !</aside>

OT, but couldn't resist!

>>privilege by birth is pretty medieval. :)

yeah, like it doesn't happen anywhere else in the world, you don't need to be born a king to have a life of privilege and power due to your birth.

She did. The {--} was supposed to come loose / fall off / slip aside and look like an accident, but it didn't happen.

more complaints from people that didn't watch than did watch the programme

Some people just like complaining for its own sake.
Sometimes they even complain about things that haven't happened. (A music promoter friend had to cancel a gig at short notice but had police turn up at the empty venue because a neighbour had seen the original ad and phoned in a complaint about the "noise")

I love how this thread turned into an American thing.

BTW - it was MIA that gave the gesture, I think she's from the UK. Even if it was Madonna, she's Brit now too.

You can say what you like about football... if other countries could field good teams, they would. There is a lot of money in that game.

I think she's from the UK.

Which just goes to show how American influences are affecting our young people. Somebody of my generation would have given a decent Anglo Saxon two fingers.
