Confirmed on BBC News tonight.
The medical staff stated patient confidentiality, but it doesn't look good. Apparently he wasn't breathing/in a coma when he arrived at the hospital.
Wow, maybe I should become a prophet [webmasterworld.com]?

Another ploy for attention.

His Wikipedia page has over 100 edits in two hours.
Twitter search has failed under the strain of thousands of comments per minute.
#iranelection has been buried as a trending topic by this (maybe one to start a conspiracy theory for?).
King of Pop is Dead, The King of Rock 'n' Roll is Dead, and Freddy from the Queen dead, we are all growing old....
But still, they were the Champions, they were the people that broke them Amplifiers simply due to a technology limitations at the time...
Sad Day...did not expect it, had tickets for the concert too..:(
But it's our time NOW!
They say celebrity deaths happen in 3's. Farrah, Ed, and now Michael. Icons of the 80's. RIP.

Four this time if you include David Caradine.
Web suffers slowdown on Jackson's death:
Search giant Google confirmed to the BBC that when the news first broke it feared it was under attack. Millions of people who Googled the star's name were greeted with an error page rather than a list of results.
It warned users "your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application".
Google was not the only company overwhelmed by the public's clamour for information. The microblogging service Twitter crashed with the sheer volume of people using the service.
It is sad news. I was a really big fan of his in the late 80s. I queued online for ages to get tickets for his London shows and now I just won't get the chance to see him live :(
RIP Michael Jackson.
I don't quite know why I feel so touched by this sad news. It's not as if I knew him. Perhaps the craziness of the recent years gave us many moments of, "oh no, how sad, I don't believe it, again," and there's now some relief.
MJ, a talented and troubled star, perhaps he'll now have peace.
Thanks for all the great music and shows. You've left us with a fantastic legacy that will live on forever.
This caused a surprising amount of trouble for sites all over the web. Not a good sign for us when a news event bigger than Michael Jackson occurs, whatever that could be.
Speaking of shows, I certainly hope the promoter for his tour that was supposed to start next month has insurance. And that their insurance company has insurance... According to the report I heard last night, 750,000 tickets had already been sold, with the cheapest seats being $81.
I heard that they had insurance for the first 10 shows and were going to self-insure themselves for the remaining 40. Most of the tickets were £75 each plus fees, with the first few rows selling for a whole lot more.
RIP Michael....a complicated man with extroidinary genuine talent, tortured in his soul and bizarre in his choices. Admired and disgusted by millions around the world....I would never have wanted to walk even a minute in his shoes. It's sad he's dead....my fav songs of his is 'Human Nature', 'Man in the Mirror' and 'Billie Jean'.
That sort of contradicts the earlier announcements that he was 'discovered' in a bad state.
His 'physician' was with him when he was taken ill.
Overdose? Suicide? Was he friends with Farrah? What about the stress of the upcoming concert tour?
He was on a lot of 'prescription medication'.
What about the financial arrangements of that now-cancelled concert tour?

Maybe they'll have him "lie in state" at the concert venues and let ticket holders in for visitation.
Actually, he wouldn't look all that different...

I think every playground in the UK had everyone doing the moonwalk in the 80's.
OD, and not surprising at all. His Doctor is now on the run from the police.
He was a great talent, it took me 2 decades to admit Thiller was a fine work of art ...because I was a rock guy back in the day and we would never admit MJ was any good at the time.
Eddie Van Halen backing him was my excuse.
Edit: The vultures are right on it. I don't have a link, it may be removed from eBay anyway - but Michael Jackson's soul is reported to be up for bid on eBay.
One has to wonder who will miss him more, the fans who were silent while his scandals were in full force and are now proliferating the Internet with their love for MJ, or the ones who used him as an Internet topic in so many jokes and images.
My daily email alerts from eBay are full of MJ stuff this evening!
