Yes it seems to work pretty well but it is not the same as a human recording. It does have a somewhat robotic sound especially if you speed it up (there are three speed levels). It is also not perfect in interpreting the text but mostly it gets things right. I also sense a difference between the male voice and female voice (you can choose which to use). One thing that is good is that with the headphone connection you can plug this into a line in on a car radio and listen to it that way.

Here are few:
- good text resizing option
- can access websites (mobile-quality connection) at no additional cost and no need for wifi connection
- can sample first few chapters of most books before buying
- can sample available newspapers for 14 days or so
- very lightweight
- can read outside in sunlight
- battery seems to last a long time especially if wireless mode is off
