Do you have a Kindle? What do you think? Do you use the audio feature? Jane_Doe msg:3928405 11:44 pm on Jun 7, 2009 (gmt 0) I have a relative who isn't much of a reader but will listen to audio books. I was thinking of purchasing a Kindle for him and trying out the audio feature.
I was just wondering if anyone here has tried it and does the audio feature work? Or is it too robotic sounding to really listen to? Does it sound like regular audio books?
Any comments are appreciated.

Yes it seems to work pretty well but it is not the same as a human recording. It does have a somewhat robotic sound especially if you speed it up (there are three speed levels). It is also not perfect in interpreting the text but mostly it gets things right. I also sense a difference between the male voice and female voice (you can choose which to use).
One thing that is good is that with the headphone connection you can plug this into a line in on a car radio and listen to it that way.

Thanks for the feedback, PaulPA. Any other kindle experiences? PaulPA msg:3929773 6:06 pm on Jun 9, 2009 (gmt 0)
Here are few: good text resizing option can access websites (mobile-quality connection) at no additional cost and no need for wifi connection can sample first few chapters of most books before buying can sample available newspapers for 14 days or so very lightweight can read outside in sunlight battery seems to last a long time especially if wireless mode is off
