What do you non-supporters think about this? I think a copy of the death certificate should be enough to grant next-of-kin/family access to those online accounts held by the deceased. It seems this as to be the ultimate in customer service.

This is a serious issue. It affects people who use free email providers. The webmaster community is least likely to be affected though, because most of us have our own domains and associated email accounts. For a family member to get access to them is much simpler.
