Person being Sued [duggmirror.com] because he removed images that the person was using to "build his site with"?

Does he really think that he is going to win stealing someones bandwidth?

I would love to receive an email like that :)

At least then I could go through my logs and find out just how much of my bandwidth he has used and send him the bill accordingly.

Mack.

I've no comment on whether or not that particular note was the real deal.

As for the original question ... yes, and some are even more so.

In today's society, I can actually picturing this happening.

I see more and more things every day and just wonder, can/are people this dumb?

A convenience store was robbed in our area, since it was a chain, one of the morning employess of another one staged a so called "robbery". Opening the store she called and reported that she had been robbed.

Heh, turned out she was the one who stole the money!

And on the stupidity goes......

I could see that happenening for real. Every day the lawsuits get more ludicrous.

I just renamed a bunch of pics today that one website was hotlinking to from about 40 pages. I emailed the webmaster and he said he didn't realize it was a problem.

I don't think you want me to call my lawyer about this.

Hilarious! Let's hope he does, and actually gets billed for being a moron.

LOL!

Even though this is funny, the sad thing about it is that things like this hurt those who truly do have legitimate lawsuits, legitimate injuries etc..

The other sad thing is that the one who lies are those who usually make out. The ones that are truthful are the ones that always loose. :(

I'd consider writing a letter something like this:
---------
Dear whoever,

I apologize for the mistake. Those were old pictures that I no longer use, so I deleted them. I had no idea anyone was still using them- you should have told me sooner!

As I said, those pictures have been deleted, so I put some new ones up for you. I hope they help with your sales!
---------

Then I'd replace the original images with porn.

LOL Asia. You're so mean *wink*

Or exchange them with a text image that says something like: "Hi, Welcome to my site. I have been stealing bandwidth by hotlinking to another person's website images. Please continue to buy my products while I run up this other person's bandwidth bill."

Just replace the image with a 301 redirect to a html page.

I would have changed the images to <an adult theme>. If I was no longer using them with the original names, it would not affect me and his site would have stolen porn for the world to see....

Sorry so long to get back in here, anxious for the reply system to start again!

some of these replies are hysterical, and did make my day.

(Though, ofering <an adult> photo isn't something that I would ever consider doing to anyone. Just my opinion on the subject.)
