How does this Flash website work?

Hi,

I've been seeing more and more of these types of websites appearing on the web and am wondering how they work. They have urls like this:

websitename.com/#/portfolio/project3/

Which are links to specific pages in the Flash animation - are these built on something more than just Flash and I'm interested to know whether they work as a Content Management System? I always thought Flash was very difficult to use as a CMS and that you couldn't have links to specific pages...

Thanks,

mn

Most likely, you would use mod_rewrite to convert the URL to a query string, then output a script that passes it as a flash var to the Flash. Something like

websitename.com/#/portfolio/project3/

rewrites to

script.php?category=portfolio&item=project3

then script.php outputs a page containing FlashVars that are read in by the Flash.

There are other ways to do it, but that's one.
