I have now taken a beginning Flash course three times, purchased books, tried self study and tried online tutorials, but for some reason I am just hitting a wall with this software. No trouble with dreamweaver or front page or even pagemaker, but I just can't seem to get the hang of this software. I have been asked to make an alternative home page in Flash and I've attempted a few simple projects. I tried moving text on and off the page and moving icons, but when I try to combine everything with keyframes and the timeline, etc. pictures don't show up at the right spot, text doesn't move, etc. I just want to design a simple page with text that moves in by a few words at a time and six small icons that enter the stage at different times and then will be used as links to web pages. I am especially confused about all those layers you need to use. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

webdesignerdude, maybe give Swish a go. It is a simplified user interface to Flash. It generates perfectly compatible Flash files.

Welcoma aboard webdesignerdude, Flash (and probably Swish) requires a little bit of programming skill, especially to do what it sounds like you want to do. How are you at Javascript? Although ActionScript (the inherent scripting language of Flash) is a language of it's own, it is very similar to Javascript.

You will progress a little better if you take in a little programming knowledge, this should help.

Use SWiSH Max - [swishzone.com...]

10 times easier to get started and you'll build up your ability and confidence quicker. It produces the same thing, it's just a different authoring tool. You can move to Flash later if you feel you need or want to, and you might understand it more.

Some people just don't click with Adobe Flash easily. SWiSH Max is the alternative that will get you going much quicker.

I'm in a similar position - I was so frustrated with flash but I came back to it yesterday and suddenly it clicked! I am now going to have some sleepless nights for the wrong reasons!
