I want to be able to check if a visitor either has flash disabled or very slow internet (under 100kbps).

if either of those conditions are true i want to show some static image instead of flash.

for faster connections I have a .swf using a preloader which does 0,10,20, 30 etc. to 100% then shows the movie which it loaded. On very fast connections it takes longer to show this loader vs load the actual file... is it possible to make a script so the loader skips ahead to the actual file when a critical mass has been downloaded?

Any suggestions are appreciated. I can provide the url I'm working on if that is allowed. Thanks.

You can check to see if they have the flash plugin or not, but I don't think you'll be able to check their connection speed. Read up at the following link: [adobe.com...]
