Copy your bookmarks from the Firefox data directory -- its location varies, depending on your OS. Put the copy on your desktop, or someplace obvious.
Download a copy of the newest firefox installer, also to some obvious place like your desktop.
Remove Firefox completely.
Delete the Firefox program directory and the data directory where your bookmarks were stored.
Restart.
Re-install Firefox, then copy your bookmark file from your desktop back to the Firefox data directory.

If that doesn't help, then run all the reputable and free on-line anti-malware scanners you can find, one at a time.

Then download and install all the reputable and free anti-malware programs you can find, again one at a time.

Some reputable scanners and programs are:

* Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (download)
* ESET Online Scanner
* BitDefender Online Scanner
* Trend Micro Housecall
* Kaspersky Online Scanner from Kaspersky Lab
* Ewido Anti-Malware Scanners from Ewido Networks
* McAfee FreeScan
* F-Secure Online Virus Scanner (Internet Explorer only)
* Windows Live OneCare safety scanner from Microsoft (Internet Explorer only)
* Norton Security Scan from Norton/Symantec (download)
* Ad-Aware from Lavasoft (download)
* SpyBot Search and Destroy from SaferNetworking.org (download)

All of these are good scanners. But although each of them can find many problems, none of them will find all problems. So consider running all of them if possible. Do not stop at the first problem they find -- keep going until all problems are removed.

To help prevent future problems, you may also want to run Secunia's free Software Inspector to find and help you update insecure programs and browser plug-ins on your computer. Both an on-line version and a more-thorough downloadable version are available.

All of these are easy to find using search. Be sure to go to the provider's Web site to download them, or to a well-known download site like cNet, etc. There are impostor sites in the search results for some of these, and some of those impostor sites may download additional malware!

Consider getting a newer PC -- or at least upgrading your motherboard, CPU and memory. You cannot survive long on today's Web without some kind of malware protection...
