Well, you cannot control them completely. I feel, Facebook has done well to keep it low. I am sure you would have observed that people spam high traffic websites a lot. Orkut is a example of it. You will hardly find genuine users there.

Yeah! your right. All we need to do is to avoid those spam. It really annoys me a lot. I'm hoping Facebook will make a move to this problem. Thank for your point of view.

I agree, spam is really annoying. hope facebook resolves this problem.

Facebook actively work to reduce spam and in fact they kick our a large number of applications that do spam users. Unfortunately being as large and successful as they are means they are going to be a target for spam. You can actually help them with this by marking posts as spam ( the little X that appears when you hover over a post) You can also block whole users/apps this way.
